Hello, my name is Larissa and I am the Artist/Owner of FemmCrow, a tiny independent business hailing from the Connecticut shoreline. I am a self-taught metalsmith crafting unique, handmade wares from copper, brass, steel, and iron.
I opened Femmcrow in 2013 as a way to fulfill my innate desire to craft. I started out on Etsy with some wire wrapped stones and other simple designs which then evolved into more intricate wire designs combined with assemblage art, and progressed over time into what Femmcrow is today. I am excited to see where metalsmithing takes me from here with great hopes to begin integrating new skills and mediums into my work in the near future.
Art has always been something that plays a central role in my identity ever since... well, before I can remember. My jewelry making journey actually began when I was about 8 years old. I taught myself to make macrame jewelry from a book I had received as a gift and soon after had pieces for sale in a local gift shop. I've dabbled with many other art forms over the years such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, and photography.
I feel that my creations take on a dark aesthetic while encompassing elements of nature; be it metal, stone, bones, or botanicals. I make sure that all of the materials I utilize in my shop are ethically sourced: any bones, teeth, or antlers used in my creations are found in nature or gifted from friends who practice ethical beliefs, botanicals have been sustainably and respectfully harvested, and any wire/metal and gemstone supplies I obtain are sourced from U.S. suppliers in order to help decrease carbon emissions. These values are essential to the way I operate my business.
When I'm not in the studio I enjoy being outdoors: hiking, camping, swimming beneath waterfalls and soaking in the moon lit summer nights. I love strolling through old cemeteries, going to shows with friends, and museums. I have also recently earned my bachelor's degree in anthopology with a concentration in biological anthropology and I have a minor in studio art. My interests include witchcraft, the occult, history, psychology, and the natural sciences.
So happy you stopped by my shop! I hope you have a lovely day <3
